Latest Updates from Our Project:

A great first day, so let's talk more stretch goals.

Yesterday was a very pleasant surprise which I will not allow to go to my head.  Since we're doing so well, let's talk stretch goals.  And since there are so many ways that stretch goals can go wrong, I'm trying to be extra-careful about what I promise.

There were already two stretch goals that I put up and had filled in-between the last Update, and this one:

  • $800 [FUNDED!]: The number of short stories available at the READER level and above will be increased to 6.
  • $1,000 [FUNDED!]: As noted above, the talented Shaenon K Garrity did the cover art for this book; and I suspect that she gave me a 'long-time reader and art buyer' discount and accordingly knocked a bit off of her fee.  If I hit this stretch goal, I'm knocking it back on again (not going to discuss the actual financials, obviously).

So here are the new ones:

  • $1,500: I actually have a map of Cin City, which I used to keep track of where everything was in the book.  It is crude and it is poorly made (I traced over a Google Map of the area) and thus it is utterly unsuitable for the book.  If I we hit this stretch goal, I will hire somebody to make a better map for the book.
  • $2,000: Frozen Dreams - the RPG!  More accurately, the Fermi Resolution RPG campaign setting.  Cin City and New California are merely one spot in time and space in the sprawling saga that is the world of the Fermi Resolution.  As you can see from the link, a version of the Fermi Resolution campaign setting already exists, but it's missing a specific rules-set: if we hit this stretch goal, I will revise, expand, and edit the existing material, which will include picking a rules-set available under an Open Gaming License (although there's a non-OGL rules set out there that I'm at least going to ask about).  Everyone at READER and above will get a final copy of the Fermi Resolution campaign setting, which will not be ready in July but will be equivalent to the version that I will be selling on DriveThruRPG or a similar site.
  • $3,000: Frozen Dreams audiobook!  I know somebody who does this sort of thing professionally.  If we hit this stretch goal, I pay her or somebody else to record the book for Audible.  Everyone at READER and above will receive a copy of the final audio files (I can't do vouchers for the Audible book itself, as I currently understand the situation).  It will not be ready in July, or even September.

"I was expecting this, but not so soon."

That funded remarkably quickly!  Thanks, everybody.   So let's talk stretch goals...  don't worry, I've already thought up a couple in advance.  And I understand very well the concept of 'don't over-promise.'  There are a lot of pitfalls in Kickstarter, and I've tried my best to read up on them ahead of time.

  • $400: The number of short stories available at the READER level and above will be increased to 4.
  • $600: The number of short stories available at the READER level and above will be increased to 5.

On the (far) horizon: Discussions are underway about a POSSIBLE audiobook version of FROZEN DREAMS (I know somebody who does this for a living).  If this project over-funds for serious money, I can even hope to move those discussions along.
